Westchester County, New York Inmate Search

The Westchester County Department of Corrections operates the Westchester County Jail and provides a range of public-facing resources for tracking individuals who have been arrested and officially processed into the county jail population. While the Westchester County Jail is legally and structurally designed for short-term local detention, state-level convictions and long-term sentences exceeding 1 year are usually handled by New York State correctional facilities such as the Sing Sing Correctional Facility or Taconic Correctional Facility.

However, county and state correctional facilities are not authorized to hold inmates charged with federal offenses. Instead, inmates from Westchester County facing federal charges or sentences are usually held in federal detention facilities, such as the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, which houses both pre-trial detainees and sentenced offenders.

Although the primary county-level law enforcement agency in Westchester County is the Westchester County Police Department, cities with significant populations such as Yonkers and New Rochelle maintain independent municipal police departments. These departments are authorized to make arrests within their respective city limits and keep corresponding arrest and initial custody records. Such records may be available for public inspection at the Yonkers Police Department or the New Rochelle Police Department, depending on the location of the arrest. Common details in these records include bail status, bail amount, and the arresting agency.

With an operating capacity of 1,693 beds, the facility, located in Valhalla, provides accommodation for both male and female Westchester pre-trial detainees and others with active criminal case files awaiting sentencing. The WCJ consists of three divisions: the Jail Division, the Penitentiary Division, and the Women’s Division.
